Mammals
Thursday, 19 January 2012 19:51

We are more familiar with mammals than any other type of animal, not least because we are mammals ourselves. We keep them as our pets and many are cute and cuddly. Few of us get more than a glimpse into the lives of wild mammals though as most are shy and have learned to keep their distance from people

With a Mantella Interactive Animal Encounter you can meet some unusual mammals from all over the World and learn why they look the way they do and how they are built to survive. Learn how predators are designed to catch prey and how their prey is designed to escape being eaten!

Birds
Thursday, 19 January 2012 19:49

Most people would love to be a bird just for one day. Imagine being able to travel almost anywhere without getting into a car, train, boat or plane. Imagine soaring high over the hills or dashing through the forest trees like an aerial sprinter. If you could be one bird, it would have to be a bird of prey

Birds of prey and owls are symbols of freedom, majesty and wisdom. Their incredible eyesight and hearing allow them to see the World in a very different way to you and I. Get up close and personal with these awe-inspiring animals through a Mantella Interactive Animal Encounter and learn how these amazing birds manage to float silently over the fields, stoop through the air at incredible speeds, hover motionless in the air and take their prey by surprise

We'll also show you how our fascination with birds of prey through the ages has allowed us to use nature's designs to come up with some clever and important inventions - some of which can be found in your home!

Reptiles
Thursday, 19 January 2012 19:45

Reptiles all have skin covered in scales which gives them a distinctive appearance. In Ireland we have only one native reptile - the Viviparous (live-bearing) Lizard, however across the World and especially in warmer regions there are thousands of reptiles living in every environment you can think of - from the harsh Canadian tundra and the deserts of Africa to lush rainforests such as the Amazon and even tropical seas such as the Great Barrier Reef!

With a Mantella Interactive Animal Encounters visit you can get up close and personal to a bewildering diversity of reptiles from every corner of the World and learn how each is specially adapted to survive. From tiny sand diggers to giant rainforest tree-dwellers, our range of reptiles will inspire you to get hands-on with these wonderful animals and dispel the myth that they are cold, slimy and aggressive creatures

Amphibians
Thursday, 19 January 2012 19:44

The word 'amphibian' means 'two lives' because frogs, toads, newts and salamanders - the amphibians - live part of their life in the water and the remainder on land. Not all are made equal though, and some amphibians live their entire lives on land or in the water

With a Mantella Interactive Animal Encounter you can meet a variety of amphibians from across the World and learn how they are specially adapted to live in environments as lush as the rainforest and as harsh as the desert
